Alan E. Brill Senior Managing Director/Kroll Ontrack
Alan E. Brill is Senior Managing Director for Technology Services of Kroll Ontrack, and is the founder of Kroll's global High-technology Investigation and Computer Forensic practices. His work has ranged from large-scale information security reviews for multi-billion dollar corporations, to criminal investigations of computer hackers, frauds on the Internet, identity theft, misappropriation of intellectual property, as well as telecommunication-related frauds.
Prior to joining Kroll, he was Director of the Information Systems and Information Security Bureau of the New York Department of Investigation, where he served as the senior government official with responsibility for information security, and as a Deputy Inspector General in the New York City government.
Alan Brill was also Director of Professional Services for Ed Yourdon's Yourdon Consulting Group. His work there involved the extension of the systems design methodologies of Structured Analysis and Structured Design, and consultation with major government and defense firms to implement these techniques. At the international accounting firm of Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) he served as Senior Manager in the information security practice, and was the co-founder of that firm's Data Systems Security Review practice. He has also served as system designer at Chase Manhattan Bank, and was on the design team for the Apollo Project Ground Support System at the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston.
In the United States Army, he served as a Project Officer on the Army General Staff, as an advisor on computer/information security policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and as military liaison to the New York City Police Department. He completed his military service with the rank of Major, having also done work in Kuwait and with the NATO Peace Stabilization Force in Bosnia.
Mr. Brill has served as a visiting faculty member in the computer crime investigation programs of the United States Secret Service, the FBI Academy, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, and the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Counsel. He holds BA and MBA degrees from New York University. He has also lectured for the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. His ability to explain the underlying causes of high-tech crimes and to devise practical preventive measures has made him a popular speaker at international business conferences. He also serves on the Board of Advisors for the Center for International Financial Crime Studies at the University of Florida's Levin School of Law.
Mr. Brill is the author or co-author of seven books in the field of information security and management, and of dozens of articles that have appeared in publications ranging from Computerworld to the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin. He is currently working on a new book, “The Information Iceberg”. He was featured on the CBS News magazine "60 Minutes" as well as Dateline NBC, Good Morning America, CNBC, MSNBC, CBC, BBC and CNN His work was featured in the U.S. News & World Report article entitled "Corporate Spy Wars." He holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) & Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credentials. He is a founding member of the Digital & Multimedia Evidence Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
Alan holds an appointment as an Adjunct Professor at National University in the Masters degree in Forensic Sciences Program. He has also served as a Special Master for the federal courts. | |

Azeem Aleem Principal Lecturer/University of Portsmouth
Azeem Aleem is an academic criminologist and Head of Forensic IT programme based at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies (ICJS), University of Portsmouth. He is also the external quality examiner at Nottingham University for their Fraud and Risk Programme. His expertise is in the area of information governance, risk management, compliance and security. Before joining the University, he has worked as an Internet Security Consultant and Security programmer in organisations like IBM and Transcend Technologies. He has been actively involved in training the United Kingdom Police Force in the area of Internet crime with the majority of his time focused on assessing and securing cyberspace and platforms. He has led many entrepreneurial activities in the University setting, involving cross faculty collaborations, such as development of BSc, and MSc programmes in the area of Forensic IT and Accounting. Various law enforcement agencies have trained their employees through these programmes. For this development, he has been awarded three honorarium awards by the University. In addition, he is a fellow and an elected director at the Security Institute (SYI – The largest organisation for professional security personnel in the UK) with the remit on Information Security. At the Institute, he is the chair of IS Risk forum, which examines the area of information risk across a range of specialist security disciplines. The forum main aim is to help minimise the gap between Information and Physical Security through a focus on the element of risk convergence. Azeem is currently working on two research books on ‘Cyber Fraud and Security’ by John Wileys, due to be published in Feb 2012, and undertaking various commercial research projects in the area of corporate and internet security. He writes actively on the issue of Internet Security and sits on various academic boards concerned with the training and accreditation of security managers.
